Clay-doh Crafts

It is always a Challenge to keep a hyper-active toddler busy, and the toughest part being that they get bored so quickly and so easily.

So mommy has to think of different activities on a daily basis, which should be fun interesting, includes skill development and new experiences.

Recently, we have been enjoying making crafts with Play-doh (clay).

Clay modelling helps

  • develop fine motor skills
  • creative problem solving
  • builds hand muscles
  • enhance creativity
  • sense of accomplishment and achievement

We started with the basic shape (s) cutters that came with our Clay – doh box.

Then progressed with few more fun craft ideas. Of course, the more technical things are made by me, but I involve him in making round and flat shapes and ask him the colors i should use. The final product given my baby a sense of achievement, and me a sense of satisfaction.

  1. Elephant: This was our first creation, quite evident, isn’t it? Lil one made clay balls for head and limbs

2. Caterpillar

3. Flower basket

This was simply because I saw it online and was tempted to make.

4. Vegetables

He has a set of plastic vegetables and he loves playing pretend-play. So thought of making more veggies out of clay.

These vegetable were my son’s favorite, specially carrot and brinjal.

5. Dinosaur and the whole Dino clan

My 2.5 year old son is crazy for Dinosaurs (Courtesy: Dinosaur Train and Peppa Pig). So had to make a Dinosaur and Daddy later made the whole clan.

Clay-doh can keep any toddler busy for good half hour. They would love to cut with he plastic knife and make round shapes, and the shapes and cutters that come with the clay-doh.

It’s fun to see their interpretation of different shapes they make.

Pure Innocence and Imagination!!

  2. This is fab. I love your creations and that you had fun playing with your son, spending the time doing stuff like this with his mum will help him grow. When I do pplay doh with two under twos I spend most of my time trying to keep the youngest from eating the stuff so I am particularly impressed with what you managed to make. Nice one.

  3. This is a great post! My son seems to most enjoy breaking the play doh into a million little pieces and throwing it on the floor for me to step on, haha. Maybe with a little more effort on my part I could get him to play with it in some other ways.

    1. Thanks for the appreciation. Mouthing is a big problem with toddlers. though my son doesn’t mouth stuff anymore, still I keep reminding him while playing with clay.

  4. Wow wow wow!!! The caterpillar and the flowers… and even the vegetables and dinosaurs. Karma will definitely love making the dinosaurs. I am bookmarking this so I can try it out with her when she’s a few months older. Just amazing!

  5. Oh My God! Each and every piece is so beautifully and artistically made. I thought the caterpillar was amazing. And then I saw the roses, so they became my favourite. And then I saw the vegetables! Lovely!! I can’t wait to start using Play Doh. It looks like such a fun activity with unlimited creative options. 😀 😀
